Seven Tips to Help with Your New Jersey Move
Moving is never an easy process. Whether you’re moving down the street or across the country, it is a stressful life event. Meelheim’s has been helping New Jersey families move all their memories for over 50 years. We’re here to help you with your move in any way we can. We provide many resources for families on the move. Here are seven tips to help with your New Jersey move.
Make a list
Write down everything you can think of. Everything that has to get done between now and your move should be on a master to-do list. Start by writing everything down in one place. Try to think of every detail.
Load Up on Supplies
The last thing you want is to be unprepared. Making a midnight run to a convenient store for packing tape doesn’t sound ideal. Make sure to get ready for the move with a lot of boxes. And don’t forget to set some aside for moving day. Some items such as bedding or clothing might be more of a last minute pack so save boxes. Having extra of everything will help the move run smoothly.
Coordinate with Labels and Colors
Packing isn’t much fun for anybody. It’s very time consuming and exhausting. But if you hate packing, just think about how tiring unpacking is going to be. Do yourself a favor and label everything. You want to know what is in every box you pack without having to open it and search through it. This way, movers can put boxes in the rooms they belong in as you unpack. You can simple label boxes with names such as bed room, kitchen, bathroom or you could have some fun with it and color code anything. No matter what you choose as your method, just make sure you have one. Organization is key for a successful move.
Keeping Things Together
Sometimes organization takes over and we don’t think clearly. For example, it might be tempting to put all of your picture frames in one box but keep all the hooks together in a separate box. This might slow down your unpacking process. If you keep picture hooks with pictures, extension cords with appliances and light bulbs with their lamps, then you can easily unpack these things, set them up and have your new home ready to go in no time. If you’re searching all your other boxes for these small items, it could slow you down.
It is likely that you’ll do some cleaning before you move out and you might need cleaning supplies promptly as you move in to your new place. Things such as garbage bags and paper towels are too often forgotten. Keep all of your cleaning supplies together and make sure they are one of the last things to go into the moving truck. This way it will be one of the first boxes to come out of the moving truck and you’ll have everything ready to go.
Don’t Forget About Luggage
Your luggage doesn’t need to be packed away in a box. Use it to help you move! You can use your luggage to store clothing, shoes, sheets, towels or paper goods to save space in your boxes. However, don’t forget to label your luggage just like all your boxes. Use a large piece of tape and a marker to make a label.
Not everything should be put in a box. Important papers such as birth certificates, school records, utility company numbers, bank record, and mover estimates should be kept with you on moving day. These are things you absolutely cannot lose and you need to keep your eyes on first hand.
